GUESS WHO CAME TO VISIT ME!?
(All you Instagram followers already got the sneak peek)
Yup! My beloved Sherry and her main squeeze John from Young House Love fame were in Atlanta this weekend filming a live broadcast for their new hardware line and I coerced them into bringing their babies and letting me give them 1.24435 million squeezes and balloon animals Just so you know…because I didn’t and then I felt like a jerk face for being so out of the loop…they designed new hardware (pulls and knobs and labels and hooks galore) for Home Depot and they are SPOT ON. Like seriously…I am thinking of buying ALL THE STOCK. Especially those campaign pulls and the customizable pulls and the key hooks. Salivating!
I know so many of you want the whole scoop of the weekend together and let’s just say there was a lot of eating, movies, thrifting and tooting (Max being responsible for 99% of that last one). We also managed to get a couple pics of our ‘baby twins’ together. Let me just say that having kids the same age as your BFF is pretty much the best thing ever. I highly recommend it.
We completely forgot to get a picture of us grown ups together and when we tried to get a group shot of the kiddos….no dice. #keepinitreal
But I did want to give you the low-down on our thrifting adventures. Sherry, Max and I snuck off to do a little shopping at three of my local thrift stores and I gotta say….I wish all shopping was shopping with her. It’s just so darn fun! We literally died laughing in the aisle when we discovered all these little wooden handled utensils. Some of them are like mini murder weapons! How creepy would it be to leave that mini cleaver in the arms of a plastic doll!?
Okay…so onto the goodies. Here is the bounty of the day (minus my biggest purchase which I will tell you about in a later post!)…
I bought six lobster plates, four clothing items, one pair of new shoes, one book, two hooks, four things of fun nail effects, two mini buckets of stain, one frame, one golf ball vase, one brass wall vase, and three wire baskets.
After a bunch of cleaning, it was time to get the stuff put away! I used the golf ball vase on my mini kitchen shelves. I might end up giving it to my dad (he’s an avid golfer) for his desk….or I might not and just hoard it. We shall see
The brass wall vase thing is so cute with the gold finish and the scalloped edge. Sher and I made a deal that if I couldn’t find a spot for it, then I would send it to her. Then we found a perfect spot! I am sure she is weeping in a closet somewhere.
I used it to keep the stash of scissors. Previously the scissors were in a drawer in the kitchen but then Weston decided that drawer is his favorite….now it is a constant battle to keep him away. This is much higher than he can access and since he generally is not allowed in my office, he can’t discover them on his own. Winning!
These little white ceramic hooks were literally calling my name. I love them so much that I punched my best friend in the eye just so she wouldn’t see them. Kidding. But I totally considered it. White ceramic animal wars
I put the bull in the kitchen on the side of the cabinet next to my sink. I really did not want to drill holes into the cabinet, so in order to make it stick, I simply put a couple strips of 3M command strips on the back and pressed it there till it was firm. If it fails, I am gonna try some Sugru.
Now it is the perfect spot for a dishtowel. I still haven’t decided about where to put the chicken hook….maybe in the bathroom? Or laundry room? The jury is still out for the bird.
Wire baskets are awesome for organization and both Sherry and I loved these vintage office finds. They were all three for $6 and as soon as I picked them up, we were both drooling. Seriously. Puddle clean up in the house wares. I only needed one for my clutter so I sent the other two off to live in Richmond. Hopefully they are the perfect solution to our constant paper problem.
Both of us were on the fence about these lobster plates….not because we didn’t love them (they are adorable) but because we just didn’t need them. Golf ball vase…yes. Crustacean dish ware….ehh. In the end, Sherry convinced me that I did indeed need to add these to my collection and I am so glad she did. They were each $1 and there were six total without any chips. I styled one up so you can see how adorable they are.
The cutest stuff is sometimes at thrift stores and I gotta credit Sherry for finding this frame. I LOVE it….like heart eyes and pounding cartoon heart out of my chest and writing it’s name all over my notebook kinda love….and it’s the perfect fit for some seaside photos. I currently have it on my mantle where everyone can swoon over it with me. (Yes, Jeremy you need to swoon)
Lastly there was this art. I actually didn’t buy this with Sherry…it’s been sitting in my garage for the last week but she did convince me that I am not weird for buying it and hanging it as-is.
After they left, I pulled out the good ole hammer and nails and put it up in the guest room. It was $17 with the frame and glass and originally $95 from ZGallerie. It’s no longer on their site. Once I got it up, I loved the way it played off the other gold items in the room. Plus, I feel like the guest room is one step closer to completion. I gotta redo the bench, do some touchups and then talk to you about my crazy walk-on-the-wild-side cornice board
So that is the update of what I did this weekend! What did you do? Go anywhere? Thrifting anyone? What was your favorite second-hand find? Don’t tell me the mini murder weapons. It’s like Chuckie’s own personal arsenal! AHHH!
