I told you that I was gonna make these marbled clay bowls this weekend and I did! I made them with my friend Charity and our boys and it was really fun. Oh and look – beautiful jewelry inside that I ABSOLUTELY AM OBSESSED WITH.
Okay so let’s just skip right to the meat of it. I have loved Gemvara and Gemma Gray and told you all about them in the past. They don’t disappoint. And then they told me about another company – Sequel. They are the first to restyle gems online. It’s BLOWING MY MIND. They take your old jewelry – the ones that were super nice way back in the day (maybe it’s a family heirloom, or an old engagement ring, or even just a loose gem) and they give it a brand new setting that makes it NEW again…all online…all mailed right to your doorstop.
I heard about the service and was jumping on board so fast that I may or may not have gotten whiplash.
You see…I have two rings that mean a lot to me but aren’t exactly my style. The purple and gold ring is my promise ring that my parents gave me when I turned 13. I am sure that somewhere in the vows I made to my parents that I said I wouldn’t ever look at a guy (oops) but really it was more about the promises my parents made to me on that day. Promises that mean SO much to me. Promises to love and take care of me no matter what happened. Promises to encourage me and show me that I was valuable and beautiful and loved. Promises that every 13 year old girl deserves to hear and I will hold them in my heart till the day I die. I wore that ring faithfully and loved knowing what it represented even if it wasn’t my cup of tea.
The other ring – that beefy man ring – was a gift from my grandfather….my sweet Pappap.
I was visiting him at his house and helping him clean up some stuff in his basement when he remembered it and ran to go get it. He had it in a box and it had a crazy story to go with it. My Pappap is always taking care of other men in his community – whether it is driving them to doctor’s appointments or helping them clear their snowy driveways or whatever – he always has a friend to help. Well, one of those friends gave him a bunch of stuff….this ring being one of them….because he wanted to show how appreciative he was. That fellow passed away many years ago and when my Pappap gave me this ring he called it “Dead Rick’s ring” (I think that was his name) and told me that there was a real diamond in it and I should have it reset when I have a little girl.
Well….that never happened (the girl thing) and so I tucked it away. This year will be the first year that I won’t get to sit next to my Pappap at Thanksgiving. He is usually right there next to me and this year, traveling is a little too hard for him and my Mummum. I was so excited to reset the stone in time. The stone that reminds me of serving others. The stone that reminds me to show appreciation. The stone that reminds me of my Pappap
The process was really simple….just pack up your old rings and send them off to Sequel…
They examine the stones and then Sequel’s ReStylist can provide a bunch of resetting options and inspirations. You can make a stone into a necklace or an old ring into earrings or into something more current or just more your style. You can also tweak them to make YOU more happy.
They took my old promise ring and turned it into this beautiful oval ballerina ring. I LOVE it. LIKE LOVE IT LOVE IT. LIKE FOREVER. LIKE A TAYLOR SWIFT SONG. The white gold makes the purple amethyst look so much cleaner and more beautiful. I can’t even handle it.
And my Pappap’s gift is now a gorgeous woman’s ring. The setting is called the Blooming Flower Ring and I seriously feel like this stone found it’s way home. One day I will have a granddaughter (no rush boys) and I will be so excited to tell her all about her great-great-grandfather and how he gave her this ring.
That’s a pretty spectacular makeover, right?!
I’ve been wearing it all the time!
