It’s officially December!!! Are you even handling that right now?! I seriously am so full of turkey right now that if you punctured me, I would bleed gravy and mashed potatoes so it is really hard for me to wrap my brain around it!
BUT thankfully I have this girl in my life – it’s Brittany from Addison’s Wonderland!
So you may recognize her if you are a Shark Tank super fan. She is the creator/designer/mastermind behind the super girly and pattern-happy bedding line that was on the show! And she is also a sweet friend from church 
She texted me about a month ago and asked if I wanted to do a blog project together and I was all like DUH! So we scoured the internet and found this inspiring little craft by Inspired by Charm. Michael is seriously the best thing ever and we knew that this would be perfect for our toddler-friendly homes.
So we made the trees but with our own twist!
And then we video’ed it.
And we apparently also turned into cheesy cheerleaders when the cameras are on. Also I may have almost hit Brittany in the head with a 1×6. You can’t actually prove it….but she still has nightmares

Aren’t they perfectly indestructible for my big boy’s room? (ok ok…I am sure they can find a way.)
But the mini forest adds the perfect amount of Christmas color and cheer in their room!
So….here’s the other bit of info….we actually had to make the trees twice. Once….the first time….we made the colorful ones you see above and in Brittany’s post HERE. The second time….the time we video’d errthin…we made the second set of embellished trees. That time I made gold and sparkly ones and added them to my mercury glass forest.
Since we made them twice, we are actually legit pros at it now and have tips for you if you want to make them yourself. Cutting the board is the trickiest part. You need leverage to cut the 1×6 or 2×6 with a compound miter saw and I figured out that if you cut the board into squares, it will be hard to hold in the saw and you might get a board to the face. Here’s the best way to describe the successful cutting method….
We used a variety of supplies – this is great for those folks with swatches of fun fabric but basically they are just scraps. The wrapping paper is Ana Rifle and I ordered it from Lulu & Georgia.
This was the first attempt when we cut the board to length before making the trees….don’t do this. Again….board meet face.
After you have all your boards cut and sanded, I found it helpful to plan everything out so that patterns and colors played nicely together and so that I didn’t have a little navy tree in front of a large also navy tree.
You’ll want to paint all the trees to begin with. Even if you end up modge podging them with fabric or paper, the color helps them look more finished.
I used the end of the foam brush to make the dots.
It helps to have a big surface and protect it with paper first….things can get a little messy when you paint.
Overall – it was super fun and I love the result. I also love making Friends joke references with these mini trees. Who loved that episode with Rachel?! Brittany never saw that episode and I just about died laughing in the backyard thinking that she just thought I was saying it was cold out there
