Keep On Coming You Trends You

Recently someone asked me what I was thinking about current trends.  I was all like “I have no idea, I’m not that trendy.”

After some more thought, I decided that would be a fun post….trends of 2015….even if I am completely off, I wanted to talk about it and I think you do too :)

Okay….so this post is gonna be two parts….part one is opening up the discussion and talking about things that were very hot in 2014 and I believe they will continue to sizzle this year.  The other part (a post for tomorrow or possibly later today if the boys take an epic nap!), will be trends I think will emerge this year.  They are just predictions and some will probably be huge fails complete with a ‘womp-womp’ sound effect but they are what I am seeing and think will push forward!

First…gold….it’s back this year after really becoming main stream last year and I think it will continue to be a fan favorite.  You can say that gold and copper and brass all fall into that same color category.  Succulents….vertical succulent gardens, succulent terrariums, shoot….succulent underwear….we are all gonna continue to be broke due to the desert favorites.  Ikat continues to be a big pattern and I think that even preppy, southwestern and classic patterns are mixing it up by getting a little ikat edge and feeling fresh and new.  Chevron is a big 2013, early 2014 favorite and I think in general, people are getting tired of it….so that is why it’s trying for fun makeovers in a remixed kinda way.  Don’t expect it to die this year….it’s still coming out in all it’s different party dresses and wants to dance.  I think agate was a big inspiration point for design in 2014 and it still feels new and on point.  I think it will be used in new ways in 2015 (not just coasters!) and I think that people are gonna really perfect the knock-offs.  Gallery walls never really go out of style but I do think that using mixed frames will be hot….not only is it easy and inexpensive to do with mixed frames but it makes that wall have a collected-over-time feel.

I have seen a huge emergence in industrial inspired decor and spaces and that will continue in 2015 for sure.  I do think that people gotta back off on the plumbing pipes (I’m not knocking them…I have them in our guest bathroom) but they are pricey and I think they fit best in masculine spaces and partnered with utility purpose (does that make sense?!).  Wallpaper is still strong in making it’s comeback and I LOVE it.  Wallpaper designers are getting savvy to patterned trends and I love seeing a well done accent wall with paper!  This goes without saying but making things personal is hot.  No more are the days of mass appeal….folks love it when their walls tell a story and it’s their own!  I think personal = inspirational.  Both weddings and fashion do indicate what is up and coming in the design world and both of those things indicate that making something personalized is huge for 2015.  When it comes to tiles, I think patterned tiles are like a late 2014 front runner.  Everything from concrete to spanish tiles are forging ahead with fun patterns and I am OBSESSED.  2015 will be a year of patterned tiles.  I just know it.  Midcentury modern items will continue this year….so pull on your high waisted Emily Henderson pants and break out the skinny wood legs.

That’s my take on what was hot in 2014 and will continue this year…..what do you think?!  Do you agree?  See chevron dying a slow miserable death?  Have patterned tiles in your own home?  Dish!  Oh and stay tuned for my 2015 predictions!
